Kepa has been involved in a unique partnership with INSIST since INSIST was founded, with one Kepa staff member working permanently at the INSIST office in Yogyakarta. -
CORDAID, The Netherlands
CORDAID, one of the biggest international funding agencies in the Netherlands, has cooperated with INSIST since 2003 to build the capacity of local organizations in several regions of Indonesia (Papua, North Maluku, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan). INSIST’s network of Social Transformation Schools or “People’s Schools” in these regions were the primary implementors of the program. Papua became a major focus of this program, as CORDAID also requested INSIST to facilitate special training programs for their primary partners in the area, the Secretariate for Justice and Peace (SKP) at several Catholic churches in the area (in Merauke, Jayapura, Timika, Asmat, and Sorong). During the first year of the reconstruction program after the earthquake in Aceh, CORDAID also worked with INSIST and its network (the Natural Disaster Humanitarian Solidarity Committee, KSKBA – Aceh and North Sumatra) to carry out programs in emergency aid and rehabilitation for the victims of the disaster in this area. CORDAID has started a new intitiative with INSIST to design a community and rights-based disaster management education and policy reform over the next 3-5 years. -
ALTERNATIVES, Canada
ALTERNATIVES is a network of progressive NGOs in Canada focused on developing alternative ideas and actions regarding the dominant, oppressive world system. ALTERNATIVES began working together with INSIST in 2004 through a facilitation program for their local partners in Papua, Central Sulawesi, and West Kalimantan. Now, ALTERNATIVES is facilitating INSIST to work together with D&P (Development and Peace), a Canadian NGO for farmer education and program organization in Java; and with PIPA (Peoples in Peril Association) --an organization of the ordinary people of Slovakia dedicated to giving aid to victims of conflicts, natural catastrophes and human rights violations abroad-- in humanitarian programs for the disaster-struck area of Aceh and North Sumatra. In addition, ALTERNATIVES is facilitating a possible new partnership for INSIST with WITNESS, a formidable human rights monitoring program (founded by, among others, the legendary rock musician and former guitarist of Genesis, Peter Gabriel) to carry out audio-visual media trainings as a human rights violation monitoring tool in Papua. In addition, ALTERNATIVES and INSIST are discussing the possibilities of working together to develop alternative fuels, specifically biodiesel, and a food sovereignty scheme with rural farmers in South, Southeast, and West Sulawesi. -
